In the world of building, timber is our only re-newable building material. The production of uPVC, aluminium, steel and concrete involves the use of limited resources.
In the case of uPVC, oil has to be pumped out of the ground and processed to produce the plastic. (Deadly poisonous by-products)
A study from the University of East Anglia, which looks at the environmental costs of materials, concludes:
‘Timber harvesting in comparison has very few environmental costs and doesn’t leave a mass of holes on the ground.’
Timber extraction can be beneficial to the environment: planting trees for timber harvesting helps to reduce the Green House effect.
